Buddy Merriam Mandolin Master: A Mandolin Retrospective 1980-2025

MHA001

Buddy Merriam with Various Artists

Album Artwork: Nancy Connelly

Foreword: Dr. Taylor Ackley

The art of bluegrass unfolds over a lifetime spent exploring the stories that can be told through strings. In learning to play in the mandolin style of Bill Monroe—the father of bluegrass—Buddy Merriam discovered a powerful language of musical expression that resonated deeply with him. Few musicians have mastered Monroe’s style with the depth Merriam has achieved; fewer still have gone on to craft a unique voice built on that foundation.

This collection showcases some of the finest pieces from among the hundreds of mandolin compositions Buddy has created—ranging from his early, heartfelt tributes to Monroe to his recent masterworks, performed in a style honed over five decades of dedicated musicianship.

Songs for Trees

MHA002

Alison and Taylor Ackley

Songs for Trees is a collection of music we composed, arranged, and recorded in the first years of our marriage. It showcases the unique style we have developed as a musical team, blending Alison’s skills as a classical chamber musician with Taylor’s deep connection to traditional American music. Most of all, it’s a chance to share just how much we love singing together.

This album begins with an original 4 song cycle which traces the seasons of nature, life, and love, lending the album its title. The other tracks are a collection of originals and roots music standards that were meaningful to us in our first years together, as we learned to live life and make music as a duo.
